Edwin van der Sar has been transferred to a Dutch hospital; the former Manchester United custodian remains in intensive care following a brain bleed last week, according to his wife Annemarie; Van der Sar, 52, spent six years at United, where he won the Premier League and the Champions League.

The 52-year-old will remain in the intensive care unit but is in stable health and is not in immediate danger. He was admitted to a Split hospital while on vacation in Croatia.

“Edwin has been repatriated from Croatia on Friday evening and is currently in the intensive care unit of a Dutch hospital,” Annemarie was reported as saying by Ajax, where Van der Sar was once a director.

His status is unchanged: he is communicative, stable, and not in danger of losing his life. The “University Hospital of Split” has our sincere gratitude from the Van der Sar family for their excellent care over the past week.
